Reading is a large historic town in the County of Berkshire, in southern England, and Berkshire’s county town. It used to be an important ecclesiastical and trading centre during the medieval era and was the site of Reading Abbey, one of medieval England’s richest monastery. Today, the ruins of the abbey and its 12th-century gateway remain.

Reading is at the centre of a beautiful area of the Thames Valley. It sits opposite the junction of the Kennet and Thames rivers surrounded by green rolling hills with the ruins of medieval abbeys, a major shopping centre, pubs and restaurants crowding its town centre. It boasts of the recently restored Victorian Forbury Gardens sitting next to the ruins of the abbey at the very heart of town.
The town also plays host to the Reading Festival, an annual outdoor rock music festival while the Reading Museum chronicles the town’s history in a comprehensive exhibit of photographs, artefacts and even a replica of the Victorian Bayeux Tapestry.
