Halesworth, an Electoral Ward and a Small Market Town in the Northeastern Corner of the English county of Suffolk
The small market town of Halesworth is also an electoral ward in the northeastern part of Suffolk County in England. It is located along a small tributary of the River Blyth 15 miles south west of Lowestoft and 9 miles upstream from Southwold. Neighbouring villages include Bramfield, Cratfield, Spexhall, Wissett, Thorington, Chediston, Wenhaston, Walpole, Linstead Parva, and Blyford. Holton is a village a mile away with a large expanse of open space for walking called Holton Pits.

The commercial life of the town is mainly concentrated on the Thoroughfare, a pedestrian-only shopping street where there is a broad selection of independent shops offering clothes, books, toys, hardware, and speciality foods. With regards dining, there is a variety of interesting places to eat in Halesworth, from gourmet restaurants to pubs, seafood houses to fast foods, bars to cafes. And the town also offers a choice of accommodation for visitors from the Angel Hotel, the only hotel in town to several B&Bs, inns, converted farm cottages, a Yurt village, and campsites.
Things to See and Do in Halesworth
Some of the exciting happenings in town include the renowned Art Festival which is held at the New Cut Arts Centre yearly. The town used to be a Roman settlement with a medieval church, St Mary’s Church and an assortment of houses, from the early timber-framed structures to the vestige of Victorian wealth. The Halesworth & District Museum was housed in what was once almshouses. It was transferred, however, to the railway station. The town takes pride in having UK’s largest Millennium Green. It is approximately 44 acres of grazing marshland near the town centre that serves as a haven for wildlife. Even the rivers in and around the area are home to otters, kingfishers and herons.
