Kingsbury, a Large Civil Parish and Village in the West Midlands Region in the North Warwickshire District of the English County of Warwickshire.
Kingsbury is a large village and civil parish in the West Midlands Region in the North Warwickshire district of the English county of Warwickshire. The village is famous for the Water Park, a large oil depot and a shooting range.
The name of the village is taken from Chinesburie a Saxon word that means “King’s fort” or “royal fortified house.” The suffix “bury” means “defensive work” or “fort.” The site of what was left of Kingsbury Hall and the church over the river is an ideal location for a fort. The Hall is presently being used, in part, as a farmhouse. It used to be a walled manor house, and the remains of the wall are still visible to date. This is the same tribe that established Minworth and Curdworth.
Economy and Industry of Kingsbury
The village was just a hamlet until the 19th Century, and Prime Minister Sir Robert Peel was the major landowner in the area. Industry such as gravel extraction and coal mining was established in the village at the advent of the Birmingham and Derby Railway in 1839. The railway station shut down in 1968, and the Kingsbury Colliery also closed. In the late 1960s, the oil depot was established to the north of the town to serve the entire Midlands.

The village is, at present, primarily a large commuter village. Even though the village is rather small, there are services and facilities such as a secondary school, a primary school, a swimming pool, churches, a country club, shops and a doctor’s surgery. There are also two public houses, the Royal Oak and the Swan and the Broomey Croft Children’s Farm a great place to bring the family for a day of fun.
