The Fun Town Of Maidenhead In The Royal Borough Of Windsor And Maidenhead, In Berkshire, England
Maidenhead is a large town in the Royal Borough of Windsor and Maidenhead in the county of Berkshire, England. The town sits on the west bank of the River Thames. The foundation of the town of Maidenhead came from a bridge and a small chapel at a river crossing. What stands on the site of the chapel in this present day is a church dedicated to St Andrew and St Mary Magdalene. Like the old chapel, the new church is close to the historic Chapel Arches area which is being developed as part of the regeneration of the town.
The growth of the village from a hamlet begun when the first bridge was built, which was the most direct route to the West Country from London. Maidenhead then became an important stop on the Great West Road since it was only a day's travel to and from London. As a result, some coaching inns were built in the area. When railways became the choice mode of the journey, Maidenhead became a chic riverside resort.
